totally earned critical acclaim
Very smart show for the 8+ set, that utilizes a great blend of absurdity, tight plotting, and a supportive set of twins. Watched it after Wired called it the smartest cartoon on TV, which seems pretty apt to me-- it's certainly clever. But what I think is really at the core of its appeal is the great character development. The kids are a very realistic twelve years old, and their motivations in a silly world full of manotaurs and gnomes comes from incredibly relatable twelve year old desires. The silliness of the setting is nicely balanced with the realism of the relationship between twins Mabel and Dipper, who are at once supportive, loving and appropriately mismatched and sibling-y.
I bought the first episode, just to check it out, and ended up buying every single one that was available.
A quirky show with high standards for quality
I really enjoy this show. It has quality animation and is fun for the whole family. It has jokes for the kids and a few thrown in their for parents as well that will most likely go over younger audience's heads. I also think the theme. a sci-fi/drama/comedy really appeals to those of us who are typically older then the targeted demographic (me). I really hope this show continues to do so well in the ratings (I've been reading it has) so that those of us that enjoy it so much will be able to continue to do so. Keep up the good work writers/producers/directors/actors/animators/sound guys!
Yes!
This has got to be one of the smartest and interesting cartoons I have seen in a while. The humor, characters and all 'round story makes this a very enjoyable show for kids and adults.
