Sukey's Circle! Vol. 3: Mini-Shows

LOVED IT
When first watching Sukey's Circle Volume 3 DVD I noticed it has a 1970's vibe that I adore! All the content throughout the videos are handmade and you can there is a childlike imagination to how it was created. This makes it easy for young children to understand and absorb. Most children's shows today have lost a certain magic they used to have because they are over stimulating to the senses. Sukeys Circle contains incredible songs, animations and puppets. It is everything a children's show should be.
I am impressed with Sukey Molloy's camera presence. She is very playful and has a voice that can suck you into her world within seconds. As an adult viewer I was taken back in time to my childhood years and I couldn't help but smile and giggle watching her. My favorite video is "Twinkle Little Star" a about a curious little star and his great grandfather star.
I definitely recommend anyone with kids go out and buy this DVD. Sukey Molloy truly understands how to...

Baby Approved!
I was introduced to Sukey's Circle by my 18 month old daughter squealing with delight any time a mini segment appeared on the BabyFirst television channel. My daughter loves the soothing nature of each of the segments and the inviting ease at which each topic flows. The length of each mini-show is ideal and keeps my daughter happily engaged from one mini-show to the next. I found myself really appreciating Sukey's deliberate movements and thoughtful performances which illustrate her professional dance experience and studies in developmental movement. We're looking forward to pre-ordering the next dvd of mini-shows the moment it becomes available.

Lovely
This is great for babies/toddlers. There are "mini" episodes which feature Sukey and her cast of characters (Sunny, Tick Toc). Sukey's voice and songs are friendly, engaging, and gentle and she is such a warm presence that my children always respond by singing along with her! I love how interactive these videos are and highly recommend these to families with small children.

Love Me Tender [Blu-ray]

Introducing Elvis...
"Love Me Tender" is the touching tale of brotherly love, and the after effects of war. It is also the film that introduces Elvis to us as an actor. Although not his best screen work(he gets better in later films), it's very much worth the view, just to be serenaded by him throughout the film, and his moving rendition of "Love Me Tender" will put a lump in your throat and have you humming it for days after.

Richard Egan, William Campbell, and James Drury are the three older Reno Brothers who have been off fighting in the Civil War for four years. They are fighting for the Confederates, and not knowing the war has ended, have robbed the Northern Army's payroll, with all intentions of turning it over to the cause of the South. When they find out the war is over, they earnestly figure it is the "spoils of war" and divvy it up with the other men in their group. They happily return home, and Vance(Egan) is especially anticipating reuniting with the girl he left behind, the...

B&W or color?
I bought mine and it's in black and white, not colorized as the store claims to be. So I would give all the stores selling this item as colorized version a zero star!!!!

Not really an Elvis movie, but a good Civil War western
Ok I'm no big fan of Elvis, I know his music, (an American can't help but know it.) Its good music, but I don't own a song of his. I don't claim to be a follower of his movies either, but this one is a western and I AM a follower of westerns and Civil War movies and this passes well.

This movie brings it highs and lows. A trio of brothers fresh from a raid of a Union payroll find out that the war is over on their way to turn in the money to their General with the unit. Their commander Vance (the eldest brother) decides there is no Confederate Government to turn the cash in to. They split the dough and head home. The family gets a shock that they are alive when they were told they were dead, while he gets a shock which the girl we was to marry is wed to his younger brother (Elivs).

The plot twists when the Union army decides that to come after the former raiders, causing splits among the raiders and increasing the tension between the brothers. The movie is more than...

Cant remember watching it!
From what i remember it is a good Sunday afternoon watch.
I liked it.
Not the greatest but very good.

This was a great movie, I was surprise by Lake Bell to make this type of movie, all I can say go buy this movie.

Exciting edge of your seat thriller!
Where the females finally prevail. This is your typical jealous drunk girl, wanting all the males attention. And eventually biting off more than she wanted. I enjoyed this movie being a female, and of course wanting the men to get what they deserved. Worth renting!

The Bone Snatcher [HD]

Good Story With Potential, But Falls A Little Short
I've seen plenty of movies like this one. It has a neat story line in it, but for the obvious reasons that hinder B-movies, it falls short of its potential. "The Bone Snatcher" starts off well enough, with three miners being attacked and stripped of their flesh by some "thing." A group seeks out the three missing individuals and come upon two of their skeletal remains. The third member of the party is accused of murder by one of the search party members. Tracking his footprints, they find his remains as well. They decide to hunt down the real murderer, which leads to a classic B-movie scenario of the team members being picked off one-by-one as the group slowly comes to realize what they are chasing. Though this is considered a horror film, there isn't much to horrify you in this picture.

The actual "Bone Snatcher" creature looks pretty good considering there probably wasn't much of a budget for the flick. Most of the acting is done in a very stiff fashion, though a...

Derivative but highly atmospheric horror
**spoilers**

OK, so the serious horror/sci-fi buff will recognise numerous hat-tips or rip-offs during the Bone Snatcher (Them, Alien, The Thing, Blair Witch, Forbidden Planet, Tremors and many more spring to mind), but it still pulls the right strings and certainly is a well-made, entertaining and memorable movie.

A sandy desolation is not an overused scenario for this genre and I found it made for a delightfully evocative and creepy backdrop to this hefty dollop of grand guignol gore.

The entity, being constructed from human remains is cadaverously grotesque when it finally makes an appearance, and its method of infecting the humans (especially the unfortunate Titus and the poor guy in the sleeping bag) is suitably nasty.

The pace of the move is spot on; an opening shock gives way to a measured section devoted to scene-setting and characterisation, before the real gore-fest begins.

Reasonable acting (although some of the...

Better than expected.
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. My expectation for watching this was to suffer through bad acting and bad storyline just to get to "the monster". By setting the story in the desert, the production value was spent on the CGI monster and better actors than I thought would appear in a movie like this. To be sure, this is a "B movie", but it performs as well as some of hollywood's mainstream offerings. The cast are all Australian/British and unlike Mad Max or Crocodile Dundee do not have super "over-the-top" personalities. The other movies tend to make you focus on the accents and mannerisms in an attempt to add some value to their storyline. The plot is pretty straightforward: Specualtors in the desert uncover something nasty and get killed. Some reseachers happen upon them and then the fun begins... There are only one or two "cliche" moments in this movie, (the awkward boy-girl kiss) & ("i can't kill the monster, I'm a scientist and I must STUDY it" *hoofa*) which is...

God's Little Acre

Pushing The Limits
Perhaps one seeing this film for the first time, in this day and age, will not realize just how racy this picture was when it was produced (in 1958). I watch it now, and I still can't believe that they "got away with it". The picture, a yarn concerning a Georgia hayseed family, took the "Ma And Pa Kettle" concept to new heights!

The gist of the story is that Ti-Ti, and his strapping sons, are digging for his pappy's gold, which, legend has it, is buried somewhere on their Georgia farm. They've been digging in the ground for fifteen years.....and haven't found anything yet. The characters seem, to me, to be the basis for the Clampetts on the Beverly Hillbillies........especially Darlin' Jill (who surely was the model for Ellie Mae).

The picture includes one of the hottest forbidden love scenes to ever be committed to celuloid (between Tina Louise and Aldo Ray). This was back in the days when things had to be creatively SUGGESTED (to avoid censorship). Things are different today,...

Scandalous in the 1950s, still worth a watch
Released in 1958, Anthony Mann's God's Little Acre caused a scandal in theaters and was even banned in many places. Now 50 years later, the DVD format lets viewers see what they may have missed. In 1930s rural Georgia, Ty Ty Walden and his family live on a farm, barely scraping by. Ty Ty was told by his great grandfather there's gold buried on the farm, and he's convinced it's still there. Helped out by his sons, he's been digging for 15 years without luck. The gold story serves as a jumping off point for the rest of the story, the relationships and dynamics of Ty Ty's family. Directed by Anthony Mann, this is a beautifully shot movie, in more ways than one, as the story of the Walden family develops. The relationships are real, the love and hot believable as Ty Ty tries to find the gold while also continuing to be able to live. It's not a well-known movie, but it's an enjoyable movie, if for nothing else than to see what all the scandal was about. It seems tame compared to...

They don't make movies like this anymore!
Review are you kidding, they just don't make movies like this anymore. Two plots going on at the same time the main being a treasure hunt which causes men to test what their true treasure is and the love story which for its time was almost scandelous. This is a good old fashhion movie. Did I say good. I mean great.

The Fartiste (1987) / That Voodoo You Do (2012)

Something stinks
Yep this movie is pretty stinky. I dont see why so many like it. I worked about a week on the film. I played one of the henchmen for the bad guy in the park. I am the one in the tree. I was also in the bakery scene and in the dream squences, but it seems the scenes I did in the dream section were cut out. Plus i dont see myself in the cake scene, though I know I was there when they filmed it. Plus some of the other stuff we did in the park. A number of the other gags in the park were cut. Plus the whole walking up and confronting Pataki in the park was cut. There was a scene with the bad guy walking up to Pataki with his henchmen and that whole part is not in it. The park sequence was filmed up near Dodger stadium. I didnt get paid for this, we were all told the money ran out. Even Pataki didnt get paid and it stuck in his craw afterwards. I heard him bitch many a time about it. I thought this film died and was never going to see the light of day. BTW, an interesting...

It's a GAS!
This is an unusual but very funny show...Not many people are aware of this true to life phenomenon that existed in the vaudeville era,pre-dating Howard Stern's FARTMAN character by many decades. G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Don't have high expectations, entertaining
I don't get the low reviews on this, people complaining about the story and the acting...? I saw the first one, so my expectations for this were low. I went into this expecting to see over-the-top action, corny lines, and explosions. The movie delivered. If you want deep storyline and meaningful conversations, then you should go see another flick. If you want to see people get blown up, then watch this.

Just. Plain. Fun...
Let's be clear that "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" is an action movie based on a comic book and a toy action figure. It features virtually non-stop action, some terrific special effects, and a comic book plot. This is not "Patton" or "The Ten Commandments" or even "Die Hard." It is a fun, no-brainer movie in which the good guys eventually win and the bad guys eventually lose, but some of the bad guys escape to set up the next movie.

As the movie opens, the GI Joes, an elite American special operations combat unit, are in action, securing some loose Pakistani nuclear weapons from insurgents in a superb action sequence inside a military facility. However, the Joes are framed by the President, who is really an impersonator planted by the terrorist organization Cobra. The fake President sends a military strike after the Joes, wiping out the unit. The Cobra organization liberates its imprisoned leader and executes its clever plan to take over the world.

Fortunately,...

Gi Joe Retaliation 3D Review
This 3D review is intended for those with 3DTVs and/or fans of 3D.

GI Joe Retaliation was originally meant to be released during summer 2012, but was delayed till March 29, 2013 to be converted into 3D. So did they have enough time to make the 3D worth our time and frustration (of GI Joe fans) having to wait even longer to see the movie in theaters?

Absolutely. The 3D is very powerfully rendered in GI Joe Retaliation. This is not a half baked 3D effort as many of the earlier, hurried 3D conversions of films like Clash of the Titans' poor 3D. The 3D here offers unexpectedly outstanding dimension and depth in many of the cool action scenes, coupled with a generous amount of pop outs. It's been said the Snake Eyes scene was noteworthy (with Snake Eyes portrayed on the Blu Ray 3D cover), and indeed it is as the 3D gives that scene depth the likes of which are rarely seen in conversions. Thankfully the rest of the movie holds up well in 3D.

Cry Vengeance [Blu-ray]

Down a very dark alley indeed
A former detective, scarred physically & emotionally by the car bomb that killed his wife & child, is released from prison after serving time for a crime he didn't commit. All he lives for now is vengeance, and he'll travel to the ends of the earth to get it, no matter what the cost ...

Mark Stevens is equally effective as director & actor in this strong, unusual film noir. Behind the camera, he works with economy & cool precision, allowing for a touch of warmth from some of the supporting characters, and making the most of the Alaskan background; onscreen, he's cold, obsessive fury incarnate, very nearly destroying what remains of his own humanity in his pursuit of justice.

Martha Hyer, one of the most beautiful blondes of the late 1950s/early 1960s, doesn't merely depend on her looks as the potential love interest. She brings subtlety, a touch of caution, and a genuine sensitivity to her part, making her role as a possible guide to redemption convincing &...

Ex-San Fran cop seeks revenge in the Frozen North
Directed by and starring Mark Stevens, CRY VENGEANCE is the story of a violent ex-cop who seeks revenge for the mob hit car bomb deaths of his wife and child, his facial scarring in that blast and subsequent wrongful three year incarceration at San Quentin.

Vic Barron (Stevens) travels to Ketchikan (known as Alaska's first city) in search of the elusive mobster Tino Morelli (Kennedy). Tino's girlfriend, tavern owner Peggy Harding (Hyer) finds the volatile Barron attractive. She truthfully tells him that his intended target had nothing to do with the killings or frame up, but Vic doesn't believe her. What he's not aware of however is that the actual bomber has followed him to Alaska from San Francisco.

As of 1/09, "Cry Vengeance" was not available on DVD.

Also recommended:
Mark Stevens is quite good as an FBI agent in pursuit of Richard Widmark in THE STREET WITH NO NAME (1948). (...

Dark but Satisfying in the End
Mark Stevens's character has every reason to seek vengeance at the start of the film. His wife and child have been killed and he's been framed. He's going to destroy the man who did it, except that the man he thinks murdered his family and framed him for a crime he didn't commit is someone else entirely. This is a driven plot and a well-motivated story. The bad characters have every reason to hide their guilty deeds and to stop the victim from finding out who the true murderer was.

One line in the film that touched me deeply was: "The older you get, the screwier it (life) gets." Boy! Isn't that the truth! This movie is entertaining, gripping and worth the time spent.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - Redemption [Blu-ray]

Let the movie edits continue
Although this wasn't the strongest season finale/season 5 premiere, if your a fan of the Klingons and would like to sit down for an uninterrupted hour and a half you can't go wrong with this. I'm a fan of the BD releases in these movie edited two part episodes. I'll pick it up along with tng season 4 and hopefully we will see edits for the final two of Times Arrow and Descent. Keep them coming CBS and please continue with Deep Space Nine.

Great A/V, good extras, weak edit.
It's likely that most fans interested in this release have already seen "Redemption", the two-part cliffhanger that bridged TNG's fourth and fifth season. In short, this politically-charged story centers around Worf's desire to clear his family name, the possibility of a Klingon civil war and the reveal of a mysterious woman that resembles a former Enterprise crew member. As a two-part episode, it's quite good. Most "Top 10 TNG Episode" lists won't mention it, but it's definitely an above average story that fans should enjoy revisiting.

This new "feature-length edit", like the one created for the Blu-ray release of "The Best of Both Worlds", is a little weak. Both halves are simply mushed together with no real transition...and though some time has passed between the events of Parts I and II, you wouldn't know it by the way the two scenes are suddenly cut together. I'll definitely watch it "the traditional way" in the future; like "BOBW", some things just can't be...

Fascinating Look at Klingon Culture
While I have purchased Seasons One, Two, and Three of 'The Next Generation,' Season One of 'Enterprise,' and 'Best of Both Worlds' on Blu-Ray from Amazon, I did not purchase Season Four of 'TNG' or 'Redemption' from Amazon. I typically pre-order, which I forgot to do this time. I randomly found them at Target for the same prices Amazon was offering($59.99 and $12.99), however Target gave me Season Four for $49.99 for buying them together. This is not something I would chance again because I've always preferred Amazon and its reliability.

"Redemption" was not favorite two-part episode from 'The Next Generation,' however it's still a great story and offers a more fascinating look inside Klingon culture and politics. The extras on the set include interviews with Michael Dorn (Worf), Robert O'Reilly (Gowron), Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar/Sela), and Gwyneth Walsh (B'Etor). In the interests of consistency, since CBS Digital is handling the remaster of the upcoming release of Season...

Niagara 60th Anniversary [Blu-ray]

Marilyn and the Falls
This wonderful movie has Marilyn Monroe at her sexiest and the incredible Niagara Falls for a backdrop. What more could you ask for? Marilyn is the trashy wife of dull Joseph Cotten; he thinks they came to Niagara for a vacation, but Marilyn's lover has other plans. There is also a sweet, young couple who won their trip to Niagara, but get more than they bargained for.

Monroe is perfect as the cheap floosie who likes to toy with men. She burns up the screen when she sings a torchy song. This is almost cinema ancient history, because her performance is sooooo 1950's, but it's a fun ride, full of suspense and those beautiful Falls. Joseph Cotten is truly pitiable as a rancher with battle fatigue who wants to be loved.

If you've ever been to Niagara Falls, this film will bring back great memories; you can almost feel the mist! Those who haven't been there will want to go after seeing Niagara. It's a dandy of a thriller, well-written and acted.

Early 1950s Suspense Featuring Marilyn Monroe & Allusions to Film Noir.
"Niagara" is a sexually charged suspense film reminiscent of the film noirs of the 1940s, but in bright Technicolor. It was Marilyn Monroe's first starring role and promoted the image of MGM's new rising star. The look and demeanor which Monroe wears in "Niagara" is the image she would create over and over again on screen and with which her name is permanently associated. Polly and Ray Cutler are on a delayed honeymoon to Niagara Falls, where they take a cabin next to another American couple, Rose and George Loomis. George Loomis (Joseph Cotton) is a troubled WWII veteran with "battle fatigue" and an obsessive, unstable manner. Rose (Marilyn Monroe) is his young sex pot wife, whose attentions improve George's state of mind and whose indiscretions inflame him. When Polly (Jean Peters) is kind enough to bandage George's hand after he injures it in a violent fit, George opens up to her about his marriage and his troubles. Rose discusses her husband's illness openly and may have ulterior...

First-Rate Scenery On Two Counts: Marilyn + Niagara Falls!
"Niagara" is one of my favorite Marilyn Monroe movies. To be honest, though, I think Marilyn's performance here is a bit stiff and forced at times, but this film still reeled me in. "Niagara", in my view, is catapulted into the realm of "5-Star" status not merely by Marilyn Monroe's lovely presence, or on the strength of the suspenseful screenplay -- but, instead, based in large part on the outstanding on-location filming at Niagara Falls. The wealth of "Falls" scenery makes this 89-minute movie seem like a mini-vacation to Niagara Falls in many respects. You can almost feel the spray of the Fall's mist in several scenes.

In addition to the gorgeous scenery of the Falls (plus M.M.'s beauty too, of course), "Niagara's" other cast members rate pretty high marks for their work in this movie too (IMO) -- including the always-great Joseph Cotten as "George Loomis". Cotten is excellent as Loomis, Marilyn's semi-neurotic and always-suspicious husband. (It's a bit of a...

I really loved it
I have just received this bluray and compared to the Bayreuther Festspiele with Barenbiom and Johanna Meir in DVD,I found that the the image on the bluray is much better ( obviously ). Also the sound is fuller. Comparing Gwyneth Jones as Isolde on bluray with Johanna Meier,I found that Gwyneth Jones has a stronger and more melodic voice. . My only caveat is that she looks too old for the role. But you can Always turn off the vídeo.

Teen Beach Movie

Very nice movie
My grandchildren and I watched this movie tonite on the Disney Channel. We all loved it.

It is reminiscent of the Grease Movie with all the wonderful dancing and singing, and 50's clothing. But it is cleaner, and more family oriented.

We love Ross Lynch, and think he is a role model. We love seeing him on Austin and Ally and watch every week. I love watching his brothers and sister and him play and sing music, great talents and seem to have a wonderful family life. It is nice to see kids that are real role models and not ones that are made to seem that way by press agents but in reality have real issues.

We enjoyed seeing Maia Mitchell in this movie and thought she was charming. She made the movie a lot of fun and did a great job as a actress. She brought a element to the movie that really endeared her to the audience. Hope to see her in other movies.

This is just a fun movie, especially for girls, and I think it will be a classic...

My Daughter LOVES this on her KINDLE!!

nice!
My daughter loved this movie, and has already watched it 3 times. Can't wait to see what kind of merchandise they come out with for the movie. I thought the movie was pretty cute myself, and the songs were catchy. We loved it!

Movies 4 You: Timeless Westerns [Blu-ray]

Good Blu-ray quality!
Timeless Media Group did a pretty good job on transferring these four films to Blu-ray. There are two disks with two films on each. The special features included are film trailers and interviews by Fred Williamson, Jim Kelly and William Katt. All movies are in Widescreen format and a total runtime of 423mins. Here are the films included and my review of the quality of them.

"Rio Conchos" (1964/2.35:1 Widescreen) 4/5
-Stuart Whitman, Richard Boone, Tony Franciosa, Wende Wagner, Jim Brown; Directed by Gordon Douglas
Overall the quality of this movie was quite good with sharp and clear picture. The audio sounds really good with "dts-HD Master Audio 2.0" and sounds great on a 5.1 system. At some points, during dark parts it doesn't look as sharp.
"Take a Hard Ride" (1975/1.78:1 Widescreen) 3.5/5
-Lee Van Cleef, Jim Brown, Fred Williamson, Catherine Spaak, Jim Kelly, Barry Sullivan, Harry Carey Jr,; Directed by Anthony M. Dawson
Overall the quality is...

Good Westerns, GREAT Value....nice bonus features!
all add up to a 5 star recommendation!

I'm a huge James Coburn fan and I picked this up just for "The Last Hard Men" and it looks great! I figured for the price I was getting 3 free "bonus" films. Well the three other films are not all that bad, in fact Butch and Sundance the Early Years was far from the rip off of the great original Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid [Blu-ray] that I've always assumed and was enjoyable. I also enjoyed the 10 minute interview with Sundance himself , William Katt. On the other Disc I found a bit of buried treasure in Rio Conchos which featured some legendary actors and a nice 2:35 anamorphic picture! The last movie "Take A Hard Ride" is for my money far lesser than the others but enjoyable in its own right and came along with two very very interesting bonus interviews with Fred "The Hammer" Williamson and the late great Jim Kelly.

I'm not used to budget...

PLEASE GIVE USE SOME MORE!
So far the best western bargain on Blu-ray this year. I have bought RIO CONCHOS in every incarnation to date and never has it looked this good. It was worth the price alone. I would have bought THE LAST HARD MEN as a single as well. The other two titles are a delightful bonus. Having Jerry Goldsmith score 3 of the 4 titles is another plus. Now if Timeless media can empty the rest of the FOX unclaimed westerns such as FROM HELL TO TEXAS,100 RIFLES and STAGECOACH 1966 we could call it a clean slate.

Don Matteo: Set 5

Original stories with a family feel
These mysteries are appropriate for anyone who can read the subtitles... or who understand Italian. Even so, you'll be sure to pick up a bit of the language as you listen. The characters are believable, the acting is great. My favorite is Marshallo Cecchini--Don Matteo's police officer friend. Will you watch these again? Certo!

Houston, we may have a problem!
I have not seen these DVDs, so I can't comment beyond saying that the episodes ARE in color. We have seen them on MHZ, so I'd suggest that the previous reviewer contact MHZ to find out what went wrong.

Love it!
Have all the seasons that are released. This is a really good show. If you are thinking of buying, I don't think that you will be disappointed.

Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh

Finally, a horror film that manages to stand out as original
A solid success for a writer/director with a small budget on his first feature length film. I'm excited to see what this guy does next. Amid the constantly recycled concepts and axioms that both plague and serve as hallmarks for the horror genre, this film manages to stand out as original. The story is nothing wowing and the horror elements are technically not unique. But the approach was! Because of this, I struggle to compare this to any other horror.

After her passing and leaving everything to her only son, antiquities dealer and atheist Leon (Aaron Poole) visits his estranged mother's (Vanessa Redgrave) home which is neatly, but densely decorated with all manner and medium of Christian--and not so Christian--artifacts, making it somewhat unsettling. The house is also littered with stitched and framed religious adages formed into strange warnings.

The recently deceased Rosalind Leigh (Vanessa Redgrave; Nip/Tuck) narrates, explaining her distance from her...

Truly haunting ghost story
I was so struck by this movie, I watched it two nights in a row - and I can't get it put of my head. Loneliness is at the heart of many great horror movies - and this is one of the best treatments since PSYCHO. It's a deceptively quiet movie, with a very slow build - but it generates a sense of dread that's genuinely unnerving. Beautifully written script, strong acting and a devastating ending.

Simple and Elegant. A ghost story done right...
I've been waiting in anticipation for this movie to become available for home viewing. I've heard many positive things about it as well as the production and I was eagerly ready to soak up a fresh take on the ghost story. This movie definitely sufficed! I will say that it is not a movie for everyone but even the veteran horror fans should be pleased and find much to love about it. It is a slow burn, for sure. For a ghost story, that works to its advantage. You're not quite sure what is going on within the first 15 minutes but it soon becomes clear that the director had far more on his mind than what he's leading on. The Gothic details throughout the house are simply incredible and very eerie with lots of creepy imagery. There is a narration by the wonderful Vanessa Redgrave who plays the deceased Rosalind Leigh throughout the length of the film. Normally this would seem an annoying detraction but it suits this film quite well and adds to the unease you will feel while wandering...

The Angry Beavers: The Complete Series

One or my favorite childhood shows
I am so thrilled that this is finally being released on DVD! This was one of my favorite shows as a kid growing up and always brought laughter to our house. I'm 24 now and look forward to reliving this series!

Season 4 should've been released first, but who cares? I'll have it all soon.
Me & my family loved watching Angry Beavers back in the 90s. It was our favorite Nicktoon. So naturally I collected all the DVDs released, at good prices. I was looking for new of the 4th season when I noticed the announcement of the complete series. I was upset at first, but I calmed down & just pre-ordered this. It was at a good price, & when it comes in I know a place where I can get a good trade-in for seasons 1-3. So overall, I'm a very happy Angry Beavers fan. EDIT: I got the DVD & have been very happy watching the last season (while lesser shows might have jumped the shark, I think this season has some of the funniest ones & is definitely as good as the others), but the one flaw of this set is that there is no episode guide! Here's a list of the contents.

SEASONS 1 & 2 DISC 1
1. Born To Be Beavers/Up All Night
2. A Dam Too Far/Long in the Teeth
3. Gift Hoarse/Go Beavers!
4. Box Top Beavers/Salmon Sez
5. Beach Beavers...

Awesome 90s Cartoon
This is one awesome Nick cartoon. This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. If you grew watching The Angry Beavers you need to buy this set. Also really recommended for the new generation but this cartoon is meant for everyone. If you're a fan of The Angry Beavers please buy this set. We need to show Nickelodeon and Shout!Factory that we need more 90's Nick shows in complete series sets like this one and Rocko's Modern Life: The Complete Series plus the price aren't that bad too. If the sales of both of these shows are good we might get CatDog, Hey Arnold!, and The Wild Thornberrys in complete series set DVDs. We might actually and finally get the Rugrats!!!

A Wonderful Performance by Great Singers of the Past
How fortunate we are to have this performance of Berg's opera on DVD!! There is a warning about the quality of the picture due to the year in which this performance took place, but the quality is still much greater than acceptable.

We have here the magnificent Evelyn Lear singing the title role of Lulu. What a great singer-actress she was! Along with her we have Paul Schoeffler as Dr. Schon and Rudolf Schock as his son Alwa. The other singers are well-known people from that period. The conducting of Karl Boehm combined with the singing and acting makes this whole performance a wonderful listening and visual experience.

Even if you own other DVD performances of this work, it is still worth getting this one. Very highly recommended !!

A Priceless document....for well under thirty bucks!!
I had no idea this video existed let alone was commercially available!! Too bad the third act was not yet allowed to be completed and performed.

Lear is wonderful as I expected, but I didn't think either Schock or Schoeffler ever ventured into this musical territory. They perform it as if they were doing it all their lives. Too bad they weren't cast for the DGG recording. Fischer-Dieskau is good; but Schoeffler is superior.

Bohm provides his usual insightful, clear and transparent direction.

This is a must have for all "Lulu" lovers out there.

An Awkward Sexual Adventure

Profane And Romantic? A Canadian Charmer That Might Thwart Your Expectations
With its provocative DVD cover and its racy title, you might think you know what to expect from the Canadian indie "An Awkward Sexual Adventure." And, in many ways, you'd be right. But using all the conventions that you would anticipate from a bawdy sex romp, the picture subverts them into a wholly unique experience. Can a movie be both in-you-face and gentle? Can it be explicit and sweet? The answer, in my estimation, is yes. "An Awkward Sexual Adventure" is surprisingly adept as a relationship drama, a journey of self-discovery, and as a blossoming romance. Through it all, though, it is also laugh out loud funny giving its audience plenty of raunchy humor and uncomfortable situations. I'll be honest. I saw the cover of the DVD (with a tantalizingly placed melon) and I instantly sized up the picture. Sure to attract a male audience looking for a crude and lewd experience, the movie offers more than its share of pleasures for the female crowd as well. Yes, this is really a...

Excellent movie!
Was a great movie for both my wife and I. Great actors, good plot. Was able to be intelligent and sexy with a little dirty thrown in without going overboard.

Surprised
I usually shy away from independent films, but I was pleasantly surprised with the level if acting, and witty humor of this film. I've recommended to several friends. One last note, is even though the storyline is somewhat outlandish at times the characters portrayed definitely were more human than you see in a lot of movies.

Jussi Bjorling: He Sang With a Tear in His Voice

excellent biography
Given that this is the only video biography of Jussi Bjorling currently available, it is by default the best one. But on its own merits it stands up very well also. The obvious flaw is that the narration is in Swedish with English subtitles, which detracts a bit from full enjoyment, but there is a lot of information and many interviews. Actors play young Jussi and his brothers as they toured with their father as "The Bjorling Quartet" and give a real sense of what it might have been like for them after their father died. Bjorling's virtues were many and they are well displayed, but his flaws are covered as well with his alcoholism and his (2) illegitimate children not glossed over. For a definitive work on the singer, read Anna-Lisa Bjorling's book "Jussi."

Meet the New Boss

...there's a new sheriff in town...
Cinemax, my guilty pleasure. I don't know that Cinemax is even trying to veer away from its "skinemax" rep but it IS trying to flirt with a more legitimate identity as a series provider. STRIKE BACK and HUNTED are addictive shows, but they may not be as huge a guilty pleasure as BANSHEE which is, for my money, even more lurid and gratuitously violent.

For most of its debut episode we don't even know the lead character's name. BANSHEE introduces us to a master thief (Antony Starr) who'd just got done serving fifteen years of hard time. But the thief is anything but rehabilitated. Fueled by rage and longing he tracks down his ex-flame and partner-in-crime to a town in Pennsylvania named Banshee. In a bar on the outskirts of town, he witnesses the brutal death of Banshee's incoming sheriff, Lucas Hood. While burying the sheriff, the thief arrives at one of those last-moment epiphanies. He desperately needs to disappear. No one knows what the new sheriff looks like. It's easy...

pop candy for the mind
Prepare to be entertained! This show has everything. Every episode better than the last, you will love this show. I watch shows like Justified, The Walking Dead, True Blood, Game of Thrones. Those shows are great but sometimes the plot filler episodes leave you wanting. Not so with Banshee, every episode brings it! Enjoy and spread the word.

I've wanted this for years...
This show is like the very best of early 90's action flicks all rolled up into one package. Seagal and VanDamme wish they could have been in a show like this! It has kung fu fights, car chases, gun play, snappy dialogue, gratuitous nudity, comedy, drama, and even can be weird at times. I wouldn't have ever imagined Alan Ball being attached to something like this, but with True Blood becoming increasingly worse each season he had to find a new home, and this is a very good one. Each episode is like it's own action movie. The characters are well developed, and the fights are awesomely choreographed. I can't imagine Cinemax sunk a ton of money into the production of this show but what they did invest all shows up on the screen. If you are a fan of 80's and nineties action flicks in the vein of ROADHOUSE, Elmore Leonard stories, or just like a lot of action to numb a bad day at work this show will do that and probably more.

The Last Pope?

An Interesting Dive Into the History of the Malachy Prophecy
In this documentary, Tom Horn and Chris Putnam delve into a prophecy supposedly inspired by a vision that Saint Malachy was given in the 12th century. This vision was of the next consecutive 112 popes. Pope Francis is now this 112th pope. So how does this documentary handle this somewhat controversial topic?

First off, there is no attempt to hide the critical scrutiny given to the prophecy. Mr. Horn and Mr. Putnam clearly explain that the lineage may have been a forgery prior to the late 1500s, but after this, a publication cements the description given for the remaining popes. So the evidence they present is fairly balanced and honest in my opinion.

What I found interesting (and wish they would have expounded on) were prophecies throughout time and cultures and geographic location which also support some type of major change occurring to humanity in the exact same time frame (2012 - 13). These include prophecies from the Mayans, the Aztecs, Native American...

Surprisingly high quality.
I dont mean that as an insult. Its just that I bought this off of survivormall.com which is Tom horns webstore and I just figured they wouldnt have enough money to make a high quality doc. I was wrong. This doc is higher quality than most history channel docs. Beautifully made, great scenery, great speakers, informative. Loved it. I only wish I delved deeper and was a bit longer. So Mr Horn if you are reading this please please make another! I would love one dealing with Exo Vaticana and delving into that. Also make it at least an hour anf a half for 20 bucks. But I still enjoyed it!

Disappointed
I gave it a two-star rather than a one-star review, because I didn't "hate" the video, I just couldn't finish watching it. I shut it off after the first five minutes; it not only failed to capture my attention, but the music score overshadowed the dialogue. A few days later I tried again, for ten to fifteen minutes. Off again. For those of you who prefer, or require closed caption, this video doesn't have it.

It's an awesome show and gets kids moving. I actually am just as entertained by the cool animations and musical trips that the show goes through as my daughter. The first 3 seasons are jamming even more than the fourth season though.

Cowboys & Aliens [HD]

Spoiler-Free
You should watch this movie expecting a great check-your-brain-at-the-door flick, and it doesn't disappoint on that count. There are wild west gunfights, love interests, and aliens trying to take over the world -- what more could you ask for?

Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde are residents of an old western town attacked by what a local preacher calls "demons." Those demons -- what we call aliens -- pillage and plunder, terrifying the locals and motivating them to drop old rivalries to defeat the new threat.

The plot is simple, although it has a couple unexpected twists. You won't walk away with your mind blown, but you also will have enjoyed the show. The aliens are designed well, the characters are intriguing, and the plot has just enough mystery to keep you interested. This movie won't likely be winning any Oscars, but it's a fun film.

Spoiler-Free Review
A man awakens in the desert to complete memory loss. The only clue to his past is a picture of a young woman and a metal contraption locked around his forearm. When he arrives in a nearby town of Absolution, trouble isn't far behind. But when strange lights from the sky arrive and begin shooting up the town and abducting its residents, the survivors decide to risk all to hunt the kidnappers and find their loved ones.

Daniel Craig plays the amnesiac who comes to be known as Jake Lonergan. Craig is a stoic, hard man with a soft heart. When his past is revealed it's a bit of a shock, since it seemed to be against his nature. Harrison Ford also stars as Woodrow Dolarhyde, a tough war veteran, now rich and feared by the town and his employees. Sam Rockwell is Doc, a saloon owner who tries to toughen up to save his wife from abduction. And Olivia Wilde is the mysterious and beautiful Ella who seems to know something about Jake. The acting is solid and believable. Each character...

A well-made, generally entertaining film
"Cowboys & Aliens" is a film with a simple plot with a few surprises. It takes place a few years after the Civil War and Harrison Ford is still complaining about the Union generals at Antietam, as well as having to deal with a spoiled, drunken son. Daniel Craig has amnesia and a strange bracelet clamped on his wrist. And Olivia Wilde is a beautiful, gun-toting woman who seems to know what's going on with Craig, as alien spacecraft start blowing up a town and the area's cowboys, and later robbers and Apaches. The film meanders along for quite some time, but heats up in the second half, as humans band together to try to save humanity from extinction.

"Cowboys & Aliens" has some good action sequences and photography, and the aliens are ugly and scary. The main actors all do a good job, as does Keith Carradine as a sheriff and Sam Rockwell as a non-violent saloon owner who learns to shoot a rifle.

All in all, this is a well-made film, which is generally entertaining,...

Stand By Me [HD]

Stand By Me: The novella, the movie and the DVD
"Stand By Me" is a classic coming of age movie about growing up and friendship and the pain of disillusionment when the adults you depend upon let you down. Highly recommended.

In this review I'll focus mostly on the relationship between the movie and the Stephen King novella it is based on, and the DVD extra material that closes the ring.

The movie "Stand By Me" was made in 1986. It is based on a novella published in 1982 and the story takes place in 1959 (movie) or 1960 (novella). But the story is timeless - the conflicts and the difficult transition from child to adult apply to every generation.

There is a lot of trivia (pop songs, slang expressions, TV shows, etc.) from 1959/1960 in the movie and the novella, but this doesn't really anchor the story to that era. Every generation has it's own trivia that is very important to that generation. But today's generation can smile at the trivia of 47 years ago and still see the parallels between that...

Much better sound than the Special Edition
I purchased the Special Edition of this movie recently and couldn't believe that the audio was monophonic. I was thus pleasantly surprised to see that in this edition of the DVD they restored the original multi-channel soundtrack. Even the casual listener will notice the difference immediately.

To my knowledge the movie itself is the same as on the Special Edition (no added or cut scenes) so I won't waste your time commenting on that. I just wanted to bring attention to the fact that the Deluxe Edition of this movie is the ONLY one any serious movie collector should consider.

Definitive
I'm not going to write a synopsis of the plot here or tell you how great the movie is. You already know that. If you are going to buy this movie on DVD and have never seen it, plan to watch the bonus documentary included on the new DVD release first, "Walking the Tracks," a behind-the-scenes look at the making of film as told by Rob Reiner, Stephen King, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman and Jerry O'Connell. You'll hear Wil explain why Gordie doesn't get his brother's Yankee cap returned, what Jerry O'Connell really thought of Kiefer Sutherland, and how Rob Reiner made two of the cast members weep during the train trestle scene! The docu footage appears to have been shot on the late 1990s or even early 2000, and it's wonderful to see these people together again (River Phoenix, who died in 1993, is not part of the documentary, but is referred to by just about everyone being interviewed).

The best part for me was watching the movie with English subtitles, which made me...

Dare I say...BETTER than "Morse" (?!)
No, I daren't say it's 'better than Morse', but I would venture that it's wonderfully 'different', its own entity entirely. The mysteries are a tad complicated (and at times, convoluted), yet it is the characters that drive this beautifully filmed period piece. Shaun Evans is mesmerizing as the young Inspector Morse (long before he became an inspector, of course), and all eyes tend to be on him (that's not to say that his supporting cast aren't wonderful, too - because they certainly are). Beautifully filmed, each shot is framed to perfection, and the period details (those 'shabby-chic' British homes before they were 'chic', and still just 'shabby) are perfectly rendered, as are the period costumes.

There are nuances here that might be lost on American audiences; chiefly, the little 'class struggle' between the posh and educated Morse and his immediate superior, an aspiring lower middle-class toady (the British police force is the domain of the working class/lower...

Loved it
I was really sad to read that there would be no more episodes of Inspector Lewis, my favorite series. I then ran across the pilot for Endeavour, penned by Russell Lewis, who was, either the writer or screenwriter for some of my favorite programs: the Sharpe's series, five episodes of Cadfael, several of The Heat of the Sun series, and the pilot and four episodes of the Inspector Lewis series.
I was not disappointed. The series focuses on Morse's early days in the police force, and shows how his character developed: his quirkiness, love of opera, weakness for women and spikiness. More than that, the story lines never take cliched routes, and there is something wonderfully understated about the whole endeavor. Sean Evans is marvelous as the brilliant, hyper educated Morse, who always seems ill at ease in his sole suit of clothing, or is it his own skin, since he has no real sense of belonging, and knows it. His superior, the thoughtful Thursday, is brilliantly underplayed by...

Shaun Evans delivers a credible performance as a young Morse
I admit I was initially skeptical about this show which is a prequel to the Inspector Morse series. I am a great fan of the original show and have watched the episodes many times over, discovering something new each time and appreciating the stellar performances of John Thaw as DCI Morse and Kevin Whately as DS Lewis. I am glad to say that I enjoy this series and find the acting credible and the storylines compelling. I have this DVD in the UK version which will only play on a multi-region DVD player and is not compatible with US Region 1 DVD players.

Shaun Evans plays a young Endeavour Morse, a brilliant young man who never quite managed to complete his degree at Oxford and joins the Oxford police force as a detective constable. Morse's trademark solitary habits are evident here and I could absolutely believe how the mature, older Morse came to be as he is depicted in the Inspector Morse series. Shaun Evans delivers a credible performance, from the little mannerisms unique...

this movie was very creatively done. I was held in suspense the entire movie. I really enjoyed hows it flowed and kept me on the edge of my seat. The producer and writer of this Movie Mike Lenzini is going to go far as I can see that he is true my engaged in his passion. It is clearly reflected through out the movie.

Johnson Family Vacation [HD]

Take a Vacation.....
Meet the new generation's vacationing family as they travel from California to Missouri and encounter all sorts of silly experiences along the way.

Nate Johnson (played by Cedric the Entertainer) begins his family vacation by picking up his SUV from the dealer and finding out he now has a "hip-hop mobile" complete with hydraulics and rapper wheels. His son, (Lil' Bow Wow), now of course thinks of his dad as cool. Estranged from his wife (Vanessa Williams), Nate has convinced her to take a ride to his family reunion along with his teenage boy-crazy daughter (Solange Knowles) and his youngest child (Gabby Soleil). All kinds of funny things happen along the road and family issues begin to come to a head. The reunion is hilarious with Nate and his brother (Steve Harvey) competing for their mother's attention....let the competitions begin!

Cedric the Entertainer is very funny in his role as the nerdy insurance selling dad; he is a gifted performer and has the chance...

4-1/2 stars -- Hilarious!
When I first heard about this movie, I wasn't sure I wanted to see it because it featured a lot of teenage hip-hop artists of the moment (like Bow Wow and Solange Knowles), so I thought it would be teen-oriented (not that there's anything wrong with that). But it actually isn't. And on top of all that, this movie is pretty funny.

Cedric the Entertainer plays Nate Johnson, a man who is trying to drive his son D.J. (Bow Wow), daughters Nikki (Solange Knowles) and Destiny (Gabby Soleil), and (separated) wife Dorothy (Vanessa L. Williams) to the annual Johnson Family Reunion in California. But they somehow end up driving all across unnecessary states (they go from New Mexico to Colorado to Kansas to Missouri) while encountering strange situations -- the strangest of which would have to be hitchhiker Chrishelle (Shannon Elizabeth).

The funniest part of the movie to me would have to be when Nate expresses his dismay of D.J.'s CDs, and what Nate in turn does with them. But overall, the...

Miss Bala (English Subtitled) [HD]

"I want to represent the beauty of my state."
MISS BALA is a strong film from Mexico (apparently based on a true account of the unending drug war focused in Tijuana produced by actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna and James Russo who has a role in the film as a corrupt DEA agent) - a film that is unafraid to uncover the ruthless activities by the drug cartels, the Mexican police, and the US DEA agents in the endless battle against drug trafficking. It hits like a punch in the stomach and remains in the memory long after the credits have rolled.

Laura Guerrero (Stephanie Sigman) dreams of being a beauty queen in the Miss Baja California Beauty Pageant, a position that will raise her out of her meager existence as a dress maker in the outskirts of Tijuana where she lives with her little brother and father. She and her best friend Zuzu work their way into the line of women vying for the contest title. After winning entry into the pageant Laura reluctantly agrees to go to a sleazy nightclub with Zuzu. In the club's...

Excellent Film.
This is a realistic, violent, and non-stop action film. The plot is also incredible, the actors make a very accurate portrayal of civilian life in Mexico's ongoing Narco wars. The film is in Spanish, but that should not deter anyone from watching it. As soon as the film's story begins to unfold, you'll find yourself ready to watch it the whole way through.

What Price Beauty?
This is based on a true story and is all the more shocking for it. It is about Laura Guerrero (Stephanie Sigman), she wants to be a beauty queen and escape the poverty she has to endure. She goes with her friend to sign up for the `Miss Baja' pageant and is accepted. Its like the Miss Worlds of yesteryear. Her friend then decides to go and do a bit of partying with some low life crime types at Club Millennium.

Laura decides to go and get her and whilst powdering her nose another gang turn up and decide to kill absolutely every one in the club. She manages to escape and after much soul searching she decides to go to the police. She approaches a traffic cop who says he will take her in. This he indeed does, he takes her in to the drugs lord.

What happens next is well off the beaten track of how you expect these types of film to work. She does not become an over night hard ass, but remains herself, being very scared and just doing what she has to do to survive and...

One Night Only [Blu-ray]

Should You Buy DTS Over Dolby?
If you got this far, you are probably interested in getting this historical concert on DVD. Filmed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in November of 1997, I can attest that having been at this concert, it is remarkable. Over 30 hits with a great light-show presentation was accompanied by live duets with Celine Dion on "Immortality", a pre-recorded duet with Franki Valli on a blasting "Grease" and a truly heartbreaking quartet with the late brother Andy Gibb on "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away". The large movie screen served as a backdrop for many old family videos as well as the Bee Gees performing songs from over four decades.

The technicalities: If you have a simple DVD player without a DTS Surround Sound player and receiver, you can buy any of the DVD's. If you are fortunate enough to own a DTS Surround capable DVD player and receiver, you are set for what the concert really sounded like! Remember that this was recorded in the 80,000 plus seat MGM...

Excellent!
I will not argue the merits of whether one cares for the music of the Bee Gees or not. You either like them or you don't. I would have to take great exception to other posts stating that the "sound" of this recording is poor? I have the DTS version. For reference I also have James Taylor Live at the Beacon Theater, Fleetwood Mac's The Dance as well as The Eagles Hell Freezes Over. Anyone that has heard any of these titles is aware of the quality of each of those recordings. The Bee Gees One Night Only is every bit as good as any of the above listed titles. The mix between all 5 speakers is well balanced with a very light and open sound. The mix between the front 3 speakers is very even and natural. The rear speakers are primarily for the ambient concert sounds, as they should be. If you have this DVD and it does not "sound right", I would suggest examining your 5 channel set up.

Excellent, But There Is A Better Choice.
Actually, it's been 12 years and not ten for this tenth anniversary issue, not that that matters much. This is a rehash of old material and a little bit of new. Repackaged in a new clear plastic case with color inserts, it's a bit better and brighter looking. But what's inside?

The song set is the same as any of the previous versions. The DVD arrangement is different. The sound quality is actually just as good with the options of Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround; maybe better. On my surround system, they all sounded good. There is a new segment of "An Audience with the Bee Gees" in a more intimate setting where they perform five good songs to an appreciative audience. This is in stereo only. There is a larger concert of this version available if you search.

The extras include a live segment (audience with the Bee Gees) that have the songs, "Heartbreaker", "Guilty", a rousing "Chain Reaction", "How Deep Is Your Love" and "Jive...

At Play in the Fields of the Lord (1991)

Visually stunning epic
Hector Babenco and Saul Zaentz have constructed a beautiful adaptation of Peter Matthiessen's novel of the same name. The american actors used are magnificent with the exception of Tom Waits who looks the part but doesn't quite get it right - this is especially evident when he is speaking to Moon over the radio. The native amazonians used are the real deal - Babenco recruited at least 10 different tribes to serve as actors and this authenticity really shows. The rituals performed are highly authentic esp. the use of epene snuff and ayahuasca. The communal housing for the tribe is wonderfully filmed - you feel as if you are really there with the sounds of the instruments and the smell of foods.

I was really pleased with how well the movie stays true to the novel of course some parts are omitted - especially alot in the town of Mae de Deus but then again that would have made this a six hour flick.

A word of caution for those who have not seen this before - This film portrays...

WHERE IS THE DVD?
This great film has been extensively reviewed on this website and for good reason--perfect casting, terrific acting, gripping story, intelligent dialogue, superior production. What more can you ask for?

The DVD has been 'hinted at' for well over a year. WHERE IS IT? How can a film this great not have a DVD release, ESPECIALLY WHEN this website has been indicating for a VERY long time that it will be out on DVD?

Kathy Bates as the wife of a missionary who goes loco (that is, she does, not the missionary). Darryl Hannah as another wife of a missionary who's more than intrigued by the native Amazon culture--in particular when she's approached by Tom Berenger, former small craft pilot, who's undergone a startling transformation. Even Tom Waits in a small part is great. John Lithgow and Aidan Quinn as the two missionaries supply the right chemistry to exacerbate the tension that drives this story with a momentum that does not let up.

This is a...

A journey worth taking.
I originally saw this film when it was first released and it stuck with me. I recently saw it for the second time and it was better. The film is so sad but riveting when misguided missionaries head into the Amazon jungle to Christianize the native tribes. This story has been played out around the world for centuries and it's probably still going on with fundamentalist religious fanatics who feel the need to change others by destroying their cultures. In some ways, it's a fantasy theme of opportunities and possibilities being demonized by the personalities who created them. Christianity is a great message but it's terribly abused by the few who create such hate and leave such damage in it's name.

This is a fine film that takes you on a journey into the jungles of South America. It's so realistic that you feel you are there with them. A journey worth taking.

A fine cast actors: Tom Berenger, Aidan Quinn, John Lythgow, Kathy Bates and Daryl Hannah supported by a...

Good watch for a rainy day
This episode is a decent watch for a rainy day. The women portrayed in this episode are supposed to be so beautiful that it causes daily problems for them. However, the women in this episode are not representative of the problem. These women have problems because of their insecurity and lack of social skills and not their beauty. The people around these women are actually more beautiful than the featured ladies. It would do both of these women some good to learn humility. If you would like to know more about the struggle of real people whom are too beautiful a quick internet search for Halle Berry, Jessica Alba and Angelina Jolie would give you great insight into the lives of people whom have had real anguish over their physical beauty. All three had trouble dating because men would not approach them and women were and still are, cruel to them. Also, all three women can easily go without makeup which is the true marker of beauty, anyone can apply makeup.

Scorpions + Orchestra = symphonic rock without bombast
The Scorpions teamed up with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra to appear at the Expo 2000 in their hometown of Hannover, Germany, and this DVD documents moments from that performance.

What you get is a mixed bag - the Scorpions definitely rock when they work with the orchestra, conducted by Christian Kolonovits, on their classic tracks like "You And I", "Hurricane" (re-energised here in a new arrangement that features sweeping orchestral flourishes) and "Wind Of Change".

But new tracks like "Moment Of Glory" (the theme for the Expo 2000), "Here In My Heart" (a Diane Warren tune performed as a duet with stage singer Lyn Liechty) and a version of "Big City Nights" featuring former Genesis singer Ray Wilson are rather lame and just drag.

"Deadly Sting Suite", a hard-rocking medley comprising "Crossfire", "He's A Woman, She's A Man" and "Dynamite", is probably the best cut on the DVD, featuring one of the finest collaborations between a rock band and an...

Another awesome DVD-Video concert
It's amazing to see some of the older rock bands (Scorpions, Styx, REO, Eagles, Yes) being caught live on DVD. Most of these performances are recent, and the sound and video are great. One of these great performances is the Scorpions "Moment of Glory". Klaus Meine's vocals are spectacular, and the combination of the Berlin Philharmonic and Mathias' and Rudolph's guitar playing is one of a kind. The sound of this DVD makes it seem like you are really there, and the video taping is very professional. I hope that more great musicians see the benefit of making their performances accessible via DVD, it makes owning a home theater worth it!

classically awesome
This is like a rock opera. This is a beautiful addition to fans of the Scorpions. If you are expecting arena rock; look for other Scorpion DVD's.
This is beautiful with the chorus of children coupled with the magnificent Philharmonic Orchestra along with the awesome rock guitar. Enjoyed it throughly.

Shumans

Far from original
I thought they were just going to sit around and record and maybe you will see a shadow or two. But you got a story that makes you hair rise up. But season 1 has very few shows... where's the rest?

Same ole same ole
There was nothing new or unexpected in this program . That said it was "ok". If you like this programming then check this one will be worth your money

Others are better
I do like the format where they chronicle the number of days they spend on an investigation. This makes more sense than the hit-and-miss technique of the more famous shows.

Tower Heist [HD]

Fun, fast, and clever!
Just got back from a sneak preview of this film, and it was a blast!

The story revolves around the employees and residents of an exclusive, high-rise New York tower. When one of the residents, a wealthy Wall Street tycoon (played brilliantly by Alan Alda), is arrested for embezzling, the employees learn that they have lost their pensions and savings, all of which were given over as "investments." Several of them hatch a scheme to recoup their losses, and then everything goes haywire.

The cast is terrific. Ben Stiller plays the understated, very likeable building manager. Eddie Murphy is the funniest he's been in years as Slide, a small time criminal the employees turn to for help. The rest of the cast is very strong, including Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck, Gabourey Sidibe, and more.

Everyone is in fine form, and director Brett Ratner finds the balance of fun and thrills he's been missing since at least Rush Hour 2.

There are twists...

WHAT AN ENSEMBLE CAST MOVIE SHOULD BE
How can you go wrong with a movie that has a central premise in which Derek Zoolander, Ferris Bueller, Axel Foley and Precious rob Hawkeye from M*A*S*H*? Honestly, you can't. "Tower Heist" is what a movie with an ensemble cast is supposed to be. It is constantly interesting, always moving with twists and turns, a great script and laughs throughout that don't insult your intelligence.

"Tower Heist" is about a group of employees that maintain, run and devote their lives to a collection of upper-crust socialites in a downtown Manhattan high-rise residence. At the top of this high-rise is Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) who lives a life of spoil and wealth. Shaw can quite simply be compared to the likes of Bernie Madoff, which is another reason why this movie may hit home with some, and is most definitely a lot of the inspiration for the movie's plot. So when Shaw is exposed for milking people of their life savings and retirement funds, the employees of the Tower's lives come crashing...

Funny and exciting.
A Bernie Madoff- like character at a swanky New York high-rise is accused of losing or swindling the life savings of the staff. A few of them hatch a scheme to steal $20m that he is suspected of hiding. Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller bring their considerable talents to this action-comedy, making it both funny and exciting. The film combines clever comedy with some intense action sequences to bring the audience to the edge of their seats while laughing at the same time. This one was well-done.

Another: Complete Collection

Another one down - a review of the series
Kōichi Sasakibara has recently transferred to a new school. His class has a strange atmosphere, and it gets even stranger after he meets a pretty girl named Mei Misaki, whose existence none of his classmates will acknowledge. Then he learns of a horrifying story that started 26 years ago, when a popular student named Misaki died...

Another is one of those horror stories that is horrific, but not really scary. The deaths were surprisingly graphic, but other then that it was fairly mild. The atmosphere is well done, the story fast paced, and the characters engaging enough to propel the story. I really enjoyed watching this series, as it is exactly the kind of horror show I enjoy. Creepy, but you'll have no trouble sleeping at night. If you enjoy shows like Shiki, Umineko, and...

Phenominal horror anime series
Imagine Final Destination, but better. This anime is how horror should be done, not just using gory deaths but having a very creepy setting with a mysterious story that should provide a satisfying conclusion.

Anime was Good
its came in good condition with no problem it is an excellent anime and it was amazing to watch and see

UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen

UFC 159...
I'm not entirely sure how I come across in these reviews anymore since not many people give me a sense of feedback but I'll continue to go as long as I think I might be helpful to someone out there. I lead with that mainly because I feel like maybe I'm being overly critical of this card but I was just not feeling it. It's kind of unfortunate too as I had specifically requested off so that I could enjoy the card from top to bottom, which included the not so common prelim card which I've had to give up a few times on the last few cards.

This feels as good a place as any for a lead in, the prelims are a mixed bag of sorts. The first two fights of the evening were fairly one-sided, even though the first fight had some a decent comeback in the second. Largely speaking they are pretty much grappling matches. The third prelim is a closer fight before a third round finish but it's not exactly a barn burner. Most impressive to me in the prelims was the match between Sara...

it was an okay event i've seen worse.

Irene huss: Epsides 10-12

Episodes 10-12 Of A Stylish Swedish Crime Series With A Strong Female Protagonist
As witnessed by the slate of popular procedural programs on network television, we can't get enough of solving crime! I really enjoy having the opportunity to sample International programs, and the chilly Swedish mystery series "Irene Huss" deserves to be discovered by a larger worldwide audience. The creation of crime novelist Helene Tursten, there have been 12 independent mysteries prepared for television between 2007 and 2011. The first six episodes have been released to DVD previously, but now the remaining two sets are being dropped and that should complete your collection.

Previously released:
Irene Huss 1-3: Includes (1) The Torso, (2) The Horse Figurine, and (3) The Fire Dance.
Irene Huss 4-6: Includes (4) The Night Round, (5) The Glass Devil, and (6) The Gold Digger.

New to DVD:
Irene Huss 7-9: Includes (7) The Hidden Watcher, (8) The Treacherous Net, and (9) The Man With The Small Face.
Irene Huss 10-12: Includes (10) Ring of...

The Great Detective
You notice I did not put the great lady detective and there was a good reason for that . She does not need to act nor be treated any differently because she is a female. She takes on all the duties and grizzly crimes as well as any man. She is proof it can be done by someone who was once viewed as only being able to dance backwards while wearing high heels. She shows a totally soft side to her when dealing with her gorgeous husband and beautiful twin daughters. She not only has a tough job but she also has a wonderful demanding family. She has earned every bit of respect her colleges show her.

A truly incredible series
The story lines of virtually all Scandanavian police mysteries are surely dark and not for the faint hearted. Yet, the beautiful live scenes from Sweden and the incredible gifted performances by Mrs. Kovacs warrant total praise.

7 Sins of The Vampire (2002) / Devilish Desire of Dario Dragani (2012)

I feel so privleged!!!
I would've never thought that this would happen: I get to write a review of a movie, where I'm all over it! Yes...it's true. I'm on-camera! I'm behind the camera! I am in the behind-the-scenes stuff! You get to see me so much! That alone should make you want to buy this movie.

I know...not listed in the info above. Trust me...I'm deeply involved!

Now that that's out of the way, let me get to the review:

This film was originally titled "Blood Seduction" and was independently released. It was the fourth full-length release from Dark Fall Productions: the writer-producer-actor-director duo of Doug Ulrich and Al Darago. As you can read from the product description, they were high-school buddies who reunited in the early nineties and began to make low-budget films. I joined up with them as they began production on their second film, eventually becoming a co-star alongside of Al.

This comes from the heart from somebody who knows them:...
